Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – ER Float Pool

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Emergency Room (ER) / Emergency Department (ED) Float Pool
  • Trauma Level: Varies by location; mostly Level 3 and one Level 4
  • STEMI Receiving: Majority of facilities are STEMI receiving
  • Stroke Center: Majority of facilities are stroke receiving
  • Patient Volume: 23-93 patients per day, varies by location
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 depending on acuity
  • Psych/Seclusion Rooms: None
  • Security: Not specified as in-house 24/7
  • Holding Area: Mixed with ER beds

Job Description

  • Float between multiple ERs within a 60-mile radius zone
  • Expected to float across all hospitals in the zone
  • Support includes triage, patient care, and assisting with tech duties
  • No monitor techs; RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Perform Point of Care lab testing after training
  • Standard ER medications and drips used
  • 12-hour shifts, schedule made by leadership
  • Weekend and holiday work every other week
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
  • Orientation: 2-3 days unit/department specific

  • Abdominal pain
  • Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
  • NSTEMI (Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction)
  • Pneumonia
  • Trauma
  • Stroke
  • Hypertension (HTN)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Utah
  • Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ENPC or PALS certification
  • NIHSS certification
  • TNCC certification

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • 12-hour shifts, scheduled by leadership
  • Every other weekend and holiday required
  • Floating required within the ER zone
  • No call or standby duties
  • Support from techs who assist with unit secretary work, triage, and floor assistance
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be in-state for the week of orientation (some modules may be remote)
  • Floating covers multiple hospitals within the zone; housing must accommodate travel within this area
