Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery/Postpartum

Location: Glendale, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Specialty: Labor & Delivery / Postpartum (L&D/PP)


Job Description

Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery/Postpartum nurse for a travel contract. The role involves working in a busy L&D unit with approximately 130 births per month. The unit includes:

  • 10 L&D beds with 2 ORs
  • 2 triage beds
  • 18 postpartum beds

Work Environment & Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts (7 AM, 11 AM, and 7 PM)
  • Weekend requirement: 4 shifts in a 4-week period
  • No call requirement
  • Holiday coverage: 1 major and 1 minor holiday (major holidays include Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year's)
  • Charge nurse duties shared between L&D and Postpartum
  • Nurse aides and scrub techs available on L&D
  • No tele or vent patients; respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7
  • EMR system: Cerner
  • Fetal monitoring system: Obix
  • Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts

Patient Population & Care

  • Deliveries down to 23 weeks gestation
  • Some high-risk patients (antepartum, hypertension)
  • Perinatology support available
  • C-section experience required (scrub, recovery, and circulate roles)
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • 1:1 close to delivery
    • 1:2 otherwise in L&D
    • 1:4 in postpartum couplets
  • Floating: Postpartum nurses typically do not float unless NICU background; L&D nurses float to postpartum

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery
  • Active California RN license
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Advanced AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) including Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
  • C-section experience required

Additional Notes

  • Travel experience preferred but not explicitly required
  • Scrub color provided
  • No in-house OB/Neonatologist currently (working on it)
  • No IV team; respiratory therapy available 24/7
