Registered Nurse (Med Surg)

Location: Saint Croix Falls, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Med Surg RN for a critical access hospital with a 21-bed unit (plus 4 overflow OB beds). The unit cares primarily for adult Med Surg patients with a variety of diagnoses including surgical, orthopedic, COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, dementia, cellulitis, AMS, pneumonia, SBO, COVID, and influenza.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 (days), 1:5 (nights), flexible depending on staffing
• 12-hour shifts: 7a-7p and 7p-7a
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun), possibly every third weekend
• Holiday requirement: At least one holiday during the holiday season
• No call or standby requirements
• No floating required
• Schedule set by manager; no self-scheduling or block scheduling

Patient Care & Responsibilities

• RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips (no telemetry techs on unit)
• Responsible for printing and charting telemetry strips
• Heparin drip titration per protocol only
• CNAs assist with vitals and ADLs; 2 CNAs plus 1 HUC during day, 2 CNAs overnight (no HUC)
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow; RT available in-house during day and remotely at night
• Charge nurse on each shift, assists with patient load as needed

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• 2-3 years Med Surg nursing experience required (higher end of range preferred)
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry required
• Prefer experience in smaller facilities
• Travel nursing experience preferred

Orientation

• One shift of unit-specific orientation

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs (not provided)
• Undershirts or scrub jackets must be black or navy blue, plain with no logos or sayings

Additional Notes

• Must be able to "hit the ground running"
• No vented patients on unit
