Job Description

• General Duties:

  • Provide patient care for a wide variety of medical-surgical and postoperative orthopedic cases, including trauma cases with fractures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Comfort patients and communicate effectively with patients, family members, and other care providers.
  • Instruct patients and families in self-care and home care procedures.

Required Skills and Experience

• Clinical Experience: 1-2 years in a fast-paced unit.
• Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current State license as a Registered Nurse (IL).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Shift and Schedule

• Shifts: 12-hour shifts.
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday on Day Shift and either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday on Night Shift).
• Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday, including major holidays.

Floating Requirements

• External Agency nurses may float to other units (ICU, Step Down, Tele, Med-Surg) based on competency and unit needs.
• Nurse to patient ratios:

  • 1:4-5 on 12-hour days
  • 1:5-6 on 12-hour nights

Unit Details

• Bed Size: 43 all private rooms.
• Dress Code: Any color of scrubs; professional appearance required. Tattoos and piercings must be covered.

• Candidates must be aware of the drug-free campus policy and must pass a negative drug screen.
