Occupational Therapist - Traveler (Backfill)

Position Summary
The Occupational Therapist assists patients in restoring occupational function through evaluation and treatment. Responsibilities include examining and evaluating patients' occupational and functional status related to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary, and integumentary systems as they relate to functional mobility skills. Information is gathered from patient charts, patients, families, or other sources as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy
- Licensure/Certification:
- State license in Occupational Therapy
- National Board Certification Occupational Therapy registration
- CPR certification within 90 days of hire
- Current state driver’s license (required for those providing Driving Evaluations)
- Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to provide patient care appropriate to the population served
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Analytical ability to evaluate patients' occupational and functional status, establish therapy goals, formulate treatment plans, observe patients, document status, and assist techs and assistants
- Excellent computer skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous work experience as an Occupational Therapist
- Valid driver’s license
Primary Job Responsibilities
- Analyze evaluation results, establish OT diagnosis/prognosis, set short and long-term goals, and design individualized plans of care
- Select, administer, and monitor treatment interventions
- Reassess patient responses/outcomes and adjust programs accordingly
- Coordinate treatment with patients, families, Occupational Therapist Assistants, and other healthcare disciplines
- Communicate treatment changes to physicians as appropriate
- Recommend other disciplines, programs, agencies, and equipment to patients/families as needed
- Plan and document appropriate home programs and instruct patients/families on continued therapy and assistive device use
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve quality of care and facilitate discharge planning
- Attend patient review conferences, clinics, in-service education, and meetings
- Mentor, evaluate, and supervise students; orient and train new staff and volunteers as assigned
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation including evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and patient education
- Maintain personal productivity at or above department standards
- Stay current with trends and developments in occupational therapy and incorporate evidence-based practices
- Support continuous quality improvement efforts to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Frequent walking/traversing corridors
- Occasionally remain stationary (sitting or standing) for up to 4 hours
- Frequent operation of office and medical equipment
- Frequently lift/move/carry objects or persons up to 35 pounds
- Occasionally stoop, squat, or position self at lower heights (<4 feet)
- Near acuity vision and constant coordination of hands, fingers, feet, and eyes required
- Ability to perform basic math quickly and accurately
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to work with others and handle emotional stress, including occasional exposure to violent or assaultive individuals
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens, contagious diseases, and chemicals
Additional Notes
- OSF Healthcare is a drug-free campus requiring a negative drug screen
- Candidates must have BLS (AHA) certification
- Active Illinois license required
- At least 1 year of inpatient experience preferred
