Job Opportunity: Radiology / Cardiology Travel/Contract Position
Location: Toms River, New Jersey

Job Details
- Work schedule: 4x10 hour shifts
- Experience: Minimum 1 year required
- Preferred experience: Cardiac cath lab experience with neuro and interventional radiology (IR) preferred
- NJ nursing license required prior to start (quick process, within 2 weeks of applying)
- Case volume: 10-15 cases per day
- Call schedule: Every 3rd to 4th weekend covering STEMI and neuro cases, plus 5-6 week night shifts per 4-week schedule
- Patient conditions: CAD, PAD, STEMI, NSTEMI, cardiac arrhythmias, neuro (stroke)
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, ARRT
- Open to first-time travelers and local candidates
Required Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable. Required for Interventional Radiology RN and critical care units.
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable. Required for all RNs and relevant techs.
- ARRT Certification: Required for cardiac catheter lab roles.
- Other certifications as applicable:
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) for specific units
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for ED, outpatient surgery, PACU, PICU, and pediatrics (not required for this role)
- Chemotherapy certification if applicable
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and general competency exams required within 12 months of start. First attempt must be completed within 72 hours of signing. Failed attempts have strict remediation and cancellation policies.
- Color Blind Testing: Required within a year of start if job tasks require color discrimination.
Licensure & Background Requirements
- New Jersey RN License: Must be active and verified prior to start.
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- State-specific exclusions list (NJ Department of Treasury) must be checked within 30 days of start and for contract renewals.
- Employment History: Minimum 7 years of work history required; 1 year prior employment verification mandatory for NJ candidates.
- References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
Health & Safety Requirements
- TB Testing: Negative TB test (blood or skin) within 3 months of start or documented history with clearance.
- Physical Exam: Within 12 months of start, must clear candidate to perform essential job functions and be free of communicable disease.
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Influenza vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within past 10 years.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive IgG titers or documented vaccinations required.
- Varicella: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccines required.
- Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer or compliant vaccine series.
- Fit Testing: On-site N-95 respirator fit test required if job tasks require respirator use. Facial hair must be clean-shaven unless accommodation approved.
- Latex Allergy Screening: Required if job involves glove use; accommodations handled case-by-case.
Orientation & Training
- Mandatory Trainings:
- OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission annual training required.
- Facility-specific orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG, Medication) required with remediation policies.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person portions).
- Annual Education: PowerPoint review and attestation required prior to start and annually thereafter.
Additional Notes
- Candidates switching between RWJBarnabas Health sites with less than 30 days gap may have some documentation accepted from previous assignments.
- First-time travelers and local candidates are welcome.
- Call schedule includes STEMI and neuro coverage every 3rd to 4th weekend plus night shifts.
- High case volume environment with 10-15 cases daily.
