Job Details

- Travel Experience: Strongly preferred; however, candidates with 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience may be considered even if first-time travelers
- Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed (weekend days = Sat/Sun; weekend nights = Fri, Sat, Sun)
- Floating:
- Floating to Adult PCUs expected based on staffing needs
- Floating to Pediatric ED optional
- Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma based on Department of Emergency (DOE) needs
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Candidates: Not accepted within 75 miles radius
- Pending License: Accepted (NM license can pend at time of submission)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Absences greater than 7 days require approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48); facility may call off up to 3 shifts during a 13-week assignment

Certifications Required Before Start
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Must have before submission
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification - Can pend until compliance due date before start
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Licensure & Compliance
- New Mexico RN license required; pending license accepted at submission
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Background checks: 7-year criminal history within 30 days of start, education verification, fingerprinting (done onsite during orientation), EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required
- Fingerprinting cost is candidate responsibility unless exception granted
- Physical exam required within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted (facility-specific form required)
- COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with signed exemption form
Additional Requirements & Testing
- Medication administration competency including IV medications
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (EKG competency) required with passing score (80% overall, 100% lethal arrhythmia section)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication competency required
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification may be required depending on unit
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
- Cerner training attestation required for new hires starting 8/4/25 orientation group (test-out option available)
- Work history verification for 3 years required
Work Environment & Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred due to trauma center designation
- Increased number of admit holds currently in ED
- Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
- No on-call requirement

Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract RN position in the Emergency Department of a Level I Trauma and teaching hospital in Albuquerque, NM. Candidates must have at least 2 years of nursing experience (1.5 years considered), with Level 1 trauma experience preferred. Travel experience is strongly preferred but not mandatory if trauma experience is sufficient. The role requires multiple certifications including TNCC, ACLS, BLS, NIH, and PALS prior to start. Candidates must be willing to float to adult PCUs and possibly other units as needed. Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted. COVID vaccination is required with exemptions allowed. The position involves 36 or 48-hour shifts with weekend scheduling as needed.
