Job Summary
Seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with experience in adult ICU, ER, Med/Surg, and ICU/Stepdown settings. The role involves working in a large respiratory care department with patients ranging from adolescents to geriatrics. The position requires managing respiratory care at a high level of practice, including med/surg, ICU step-down units, and possibly the ED.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in Respiratory Therapy (highest stated requirement)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Certifications:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- North Carolina state license
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Skills & Experience:
- Airway management
- Medication administration
- Ventilator management
- Arterial Blood Gases (ABGs)
- Oxygen therapy
- Suctioning
- Pulmonary toileting
- Nebulizer treatments
- BiPAP, CPAP, Vest Therapy, Meta-neb, PAP therapy, Heated High-flow
- EPIC electronic health record experience (required)
- Preferred:
- Bronchoscopy skills
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Note: CRT credential not accepted
Work Details
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (36 or 48 hours offered)
- Patient Ratio: 35-45 patients per day
- Call: On-call as needed, workload dependent
- Floating: No floating to other facilities; may float within the unit only
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
- Orientation:
- Day shift orientation 7a-7p
- Night shift RTs require a few days of day shift orientation before nights
- Scrubs: Black
Patient Population & Equipment
- Patients: Adolescents to geriatrics in med/surg, ICU step-down, and possibly ED
- Equipment: Servo I, Servo U, Hamilton T1, V60, Night-time VPAP, Omni-labs, V30s, ABL90 ABG machine
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks within 6 months required
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months required
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Negative TB or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with CXR)
- Rubeola (Measles) titer or vaccination
- Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella per standard requirements
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as per Aya Healthcare standards
- Color blindness testing within 1 year
- Various facility-specific trainings and acknowledgments (e.g., Medication Safety, Confidentiality Agreement, Hospital Policies)
- EPIC test-out option available for experienced users (optional)
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite; excessive call-offs may lead to cancellation
- Unit accepts first-time travelers
- No CRT credential acceptance; must hold RRT
- Orientation and training modules may require 8-10 hours to complete
- Must comply with all facility-specific policies and training requirements
This position is ideal for a Respiratory Therapist with solid critical care experience, EPIC proficiency, and the ability to work night shifts in a fast-paced respiratory care environment.
