Job Opportunity: House Supervisor (Registered Nurse)

Location: Newark, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: 3 shifts of 8 hours and 1 shift of 12 hours per week (36 hours total)
  • Shift times vary: 11pm-7am (8 hrs), 3pm-11pm (8 hrs), 7pm-7am (12 hrs)
  • Weekend coverage: Every other weekend
  • Average daily census: 180 patients
  • Previous charge nurse experience required
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers
  • Local candidates must live more than 75 miles away

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Facility has 5 units caring for residents with dementia, diabetes, stroke (CVA), cardiac issues, orthopedic treatments, and neurobehavioral conditions
  • Units include:
    • Neurobehavioral unit (dementia/Alzheimer’s with violent behaviors)
    • Rehab unit (post-orthopedic surgery, cardiac procedures)
    • Secure dementia unit (residents at risk for elopement)
    • Long-term care units

Role Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical resource and problem solver during off shifts (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)
  • Provide clinical expertise, staff mentoring, and coaching
  • Facilitate patient flow across all units
  • Supervise nursing care delivered on all units organizationally

Special Equipment & Procedures

  • Experience with wound vacs, PICC lines, nephrostomy tubes, tube feeds, indwelling catheters, colostomies
  • Skilled Nursing Facility knowledge
  • Code management and emergency preparedness
  • De-escalation techniques and managing assaultive behavior
  • Documentation and process for patient death
  • HIPAA compliance and risk management
  • Infection control and isolation procedures
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements (DPH, TJC, OSHA)
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
  • Coaching and counseling to performance standards
  • Federal and state labor laws (FMLA)
  • PICC line care/management
  • Customer service and incident reporting
  • Workplace safety and new admissions
  • Experience with productivity standards and staffing requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (charge nurse experience required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Licensure: Valid RN license for New York
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
    • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
  • Other Requirements:
    • EPIC experience required
    • Government-issued photo ID
    • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
    • Education verification and transcript if applicable
    • Physical exam, immunizations, and health screenings (TB, Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella, Flu vaccine or declination, drug testing, eye exam)
    • Compliance with state-specific requirements such as NYS Nurse Aide Registry and criminal background fingerprinting if applicable

  • References: 2 references within 3 years (required for some applicants)
  • Must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of contract signing
  • Facility-specific orientation and competency exams required
