Job Description

  • At least 2 years of NICU RN experience required, with additional PICU experience.
  • Majority of time will be spent in the NICU; may also staff in PICU as needed.
  • Responsibilities include:
    • Attending high-risk deliveries
    • NICU IV management
    • PICU patient care

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
  • Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience working with high-risk patients
  • Ability to attend high-risk deliveries
  • Proficient in NICU IV management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer 2 years combined experience in PICU, PCTU, NICU, and moderate care.
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.

Facility & Unit Information

  • NICU is a 59-bed Level IV neonatal center providing care for premature newborns and infants with complex medical and surgical needs.
  • Advanced technologies used include ECMO, high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, and hypothermic neuroprotection.
  • Family-centered care approach with support and education for families throughout hospitalization and discharge.
  • PICU is a 30-bed monitored ICU for critically ill children from newborn to young adult, with multidisciplinary care and advanced technology including ECMO, nitric oxide, high-frequency ventilation, and CRRT.
  • Family presence during rounds and nursing report is encouraged.

Required Compliance & Documentation

  • Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG clearance.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 or equivalent).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire if history of positive test.
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually.
  • Annual seasonal flu vaccination required with no exemptions permitted.
  • Pass/fail competency testing for EKG and medication administration upon orientation.
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation paperwork within 3 weeks of start.
