Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility Type: Neuro ICU, 18-bed critical care unit specializing in neuro diagnoses (stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, surgical resections, trauma)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Shift Details

  • Evening/Night shifts
  • 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
  • Every other weekend and some holidays

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
  • Experience with ICP or ventric
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required (must pass Telemetry test prior to start)
  • Epic experience required, preferably within the last 12 months
  • Prior travel experience required: Must have successfully completed at least one 13-week travel assignment

Licensure & Certifications

  • Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state
  • BLS & ACLS certifications required (American Heart Association only)
  • Telemetry test pass required before starting

Job Responsibilities

  • Care for critically ill adult patients with neuro diagnoses
  • Perform specialized interventions such as hemodynamic monitoring and hypothermia
  • Collaborate with nationally certified physicians and interdisciplinary care team
  • Strong critical thinking skills required

  • Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the work site
  • Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs

  • Parking permit required if parking onsite; other transportation options available

Compliance & Documentation Highlights

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, including nationwide and sex offender searches
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Telemetry testing (Adult and Pediatric) with strict pass/fail criteria and remediation process
  • Various health documents required including:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray
    • Immunizations: MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), Flu vaccine or approved exemption
    • Drug screening as per facility standards
  • State-specific caregiver screening and BID form required for Wisconsin
  • Photo for badge required (passport-style, no headwear except religious/medical)
