Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Telemetry)

Location: Alton, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Unit & Shift Details

  • Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (Telemetry)
  • Shift: Days
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
  • Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call Requirement: Yes
  • Floating: Floating within scope to meet facility needs required
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Local Radius Rule: 75 miles (locals not accepted)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Specialty Experience: 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BCLS/BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • MAB or CPI (Management of Assaultive Behavior / Crisis Prevention Institute)
    • Other unit-specific certifications as applicable

Work Hours & Scheduling

  • Guaranteed Hours:
    • 36 hours per week for 3-12 hour shifts
    • 48 hours per week for 4-12 hour shifts

Licensure & Compliance

  • Illinois RN license required (pending licenses not accepted)
  • Primary source verification of professional license required
  • NURSYS verification required for Missouri and Illinois licenses
  • Background checks required including:
    • Criminal background check (7-year search) within 6 months of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM quarterly checks
    • HHS/OIG quarterly checks
    • State-specific exclusion lists and searches
    • Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois
  • Education verification required (highest nursing education)
  • Drug testing required within 1 year of start and must remain valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with yearly questionnaire)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
    • Hepatitis B declination required (not vaccination)

Competencies & Documentation

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
  • Unit-specific competency exam required annually (e.g., Oncology competency for Med Surg-Oncology Unit)
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Employment application and professional references required
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but not mandatory for extensions or per diem
  • Facility-specific documents required prior to start including:
    • HIPAA Acknowledgement
    • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
    • Confidentiality Form
    • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual training and quiz)
    • TB Questionnaire
    • Hand Hygiene Policy
    • Fingernail Policy
    • Dress Code Policy
    • Orientation Modules (required for all RNs and LVNs, except some allied and BJC West facilities)
    • Badge photo and facility badge

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must adhere to all facility policies and complete all required documentation and training prior to start.
  • Floating within scope is expected to meet facility needs.
  • No block scheduling accommodations.
  • Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel position.
  • Weekend and on-call requirements are mandatory.
