Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech (SPT)

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 6 weeks
Shift: Day (Friday-Sunday, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Work schedule: Friday through Sunday, 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM)
  • No call required
  • No time off granted during the first contract
  • Local candidates allowed
  • Truncated compliance approved for quick start
  • Proficient in decontamination, assembly, sterilization, case carts, and scope reprocessing
  • Experience with service lines including Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, CT, Trauma, Vascular, Oral, Plastics, ENT, and General surgeries

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in sterile processing
  • Level 1 trauma experience required (Level 2 trauma experience also accepted)
  • For first-time travelers: must have 3 years of experience and Level 1 trauma experience
  • Otherwise, prior travel experience is required
  • HSPA/CRCST certification required
  • Core HIPAA exams must be completed for compliance

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background checks required within 1 year of start and updated annually, including:
    • County Criminal Background Search (last 7 years)
    • National Criminal and Sex Offender Search
    • FACIS III
    • Education Verification or signed official transcript/diploma
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated annually
  • Employment verification covering 7 years required, with no unexplained gaps longer than 30 days
  • Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start (must confirm direct supervision)

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only, RQI accepted
  • Other specialty certifications may be required based on unit details (review prior to start)
  • Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia exam required for certain units (not specifically required for this role unless assigned to those units)
  • Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams required annually with passing scores
  • Color Blind Testing required within 1 year of start
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card may be required (can be completed onsite)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, or PA, confirming good health and no physical limitations
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (acceptable masks include Halyard Regular/Small, 3M N95 models)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start date (medical/religious exemptions accepted, updated annually)
  • Negative TB test (PPD or TSPOT/QuantiFERON) within 1 year, renewed annually; positive TB requires chest x-ray and annual questionnaire
  • Immunity or vaccination for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination renewed annually)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific drug panels required; rapid drug screens not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required year-round (medical/religious exemptions accepted, updated annually)
  • COVID vaccination initial series required or medical/religious exemption (booster preferred but not required)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must renew all documents set to expire during the assignment prior to clearance
  • No time off allowed during the first contract period
  • Candidates must complete all required exams, certifications, and competency tests before or during the assignment as specified
  • First-time travelers must meet higher experience and trauma level requirements or have prior travel experience

This position offers a focused opportunity for experienced sterile processing technicians with trauma experience, looking for a short-term travel contract with a defined weekend day shift schedule.
