Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Hours per week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
• Orientation: Must be available for the first two weeks of orientation
• Weekend Work: Every other weekend required
• Floating: Will float to other Medical/Surgical units approximately once per week, depending on unit needs
• Patient Ratio:

  • Nights: 1:5-6 patients
  • Ratios may flex to 7-8 patients with LPN support
• Unit Description:

  • 37-bed Medical, Surgical, Oncology unit
  • Patient types include general medical diagnoses and surgical patients (GI, urology, gynecological surgeries such as hysterectomies and mastectomies)
  • Specialty exposure includes ortho/neurovascular, cardio/pulmonary, and surgical patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
• Minimum of 1 year Medical/Surgical nursing experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Fingerprinting: Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions (not typically required for this RN role unless specified)
• Education Verification: Copy of highest degree or diploma required
• References: One professional reference from a supervisor or manager required
• Employment History: Complete application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
• Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment start (passing score ≥ 80%)
  • Specialty competency exam within 1 year prior to assignment start (passing score ≥ 80%)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start
• Immunizations & Testing:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Proof of at least one prior Tdap vaccine
  • Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required (no exemptions accepted)
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or facility declination required
• Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start (instant/rapid acceptable if 10-panel)
• Flu Vaccination: Required for candidates starting after November 1, or approved medical/spiritual exemption submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
• Fit Mask Testing: Not required for this role unless specified; if required, must be completed onsite with specified mask model

Facility Policies & Acknowledgments

• Review and sign the facility's Code of Conduct and Appearance Standards Policy prior to start
• Complete Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

• Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed or approved at this time
• Local rate applies for travelers living within 50 miles of the facility
• Must be flexible with scheduling and floating to meet staffing demands

This position offers a diverse clinical experience in a busy Medical/Surgical/Oncology unit with a variety of patient types and requires a flexible, experienced RN with strong Med/Surg skills.
