Job Description
- Perform embedding, cutting, slide preparation
- Operate stainer and perform hand staining
- Conduct Immunohistochemistry (IHC)
- Collaborate with Pathology grossing techs, Pathology Assistants, Pathologists, and other departments

Required Skills and Experience
- Tissue Processing
- Histology Grossing/Fixation: Coagulant/Non-Coagulant Fixatives, Core Biopsies, Curettings, Decalcification, Enzyme Histochemistry, Excision Specimens, Formalin, Immunohistochemistry, Incisional Biopsies, Shave Biopsies
- Histology Embedding/Microtomy: Automated/Manual Microtome, Cutting Blocks, Embedding GI Specimens, Large Specimens, Molds, Skin Techniques, Histology Cassettes, Microtomy of Fatty Tissue, Frozen Sections, Hard Tissue, Paraffin Wax Sections
- Histology Staining: Basic Dye Stains, Giemsa, Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E), IHC Staining, Special Stains
- Cytology (Preferred): Fine Needle Aspirates (FNA’s), Special Stains, Make Smears
- Documentation Systems (Preferred): EPIC and CERNER
- Specific Equipment (Preferred): VIP 5/6 processors, Benchmark Ultra

- 1 year

- ASCP-HT or ASCP-HTL

Compliance and Credentialing Requirements
Background Checks
- 7-year background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually
- Fingerprinting required for certain units; Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprint results must be within 12 months of start and updated annually
- Education verification required for all candidates
- State-specific background checks as applicable
Certifications (AHA or AAP as applicable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – updated every 2 years
- NIH Stroke Certification – updated annually or per expiration
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Aegis (De-escalation) CPI required; can be obtained onsite after start with approval
- Tech Certification Verification (e.g., ASCP or AMT for MLT/MT/MLS)
- State License Primary Source Verification
- NURSYS Verification for RN, LPN/LVN
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
- Color Blind Testing (for MT, MLT, MLS, Cytotechnologist)
- Competency Exam (as applicable)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for RNs, time sensitive, updated annually)
- Conscious Sedation Competency Exam (for ER & ICU)
Health Documents
- Physical Exam within last 12 months (latex-free PPE available)
- N95 Fit Test within 12 months, updated annually (KN95 not accepted)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination accepted (except certain facilities)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 3 months, updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B) or approved exemptions
- Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months (instant acceptable unless on Rx)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
Other Requirements
- Two professional references within 2 years of start (at least one from a leader, e.g., Charge RN or above)
- Skills checklist required for all candidates
- Dress code adherence as per facility guidelines
