Registered Nurse (ICU) - Per Diem

Location: Fountain Valley, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• ICU Registered Nurses needed for per diem shifts.
• Work settings include Neuro Intensive Care Unit and Surgical Intensive Care Unit.
• Must be willing and comfortable to float to lower acuity units as needed (Med-Surg, Med-Surg/Telemetry, Telemetry, ED Holding).
• Orientation is not provided; clinicians must be prepared to work independently immediately after clearance.
• Pre-start modules required: 8 hours.
• Shift: Days, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
• Pre-booking available; clinicians can submit availability for proactive scheduling.
• Cancellation policy: Removal from pool if 2 shifts are canceled within 24 hours of shift start in a 30-day period.
• Previous MemorialCare staff/travelers require facility approval with an 18-month separation period.
• Scrubs color: Navy Blue.

Requirements

• Minimum 1 year recent experience as a staff ICU RN or 2 years as a travel ICU RN.
• Active RN license.
• Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIH Stroke Certification.
• Epic experience required.
• Two professional references required (minimum one supervisor) within the last 12 months.
• Must meet MemorialCare credentialing and compliance standards.

Orientation & Training

• No formal orientation provided; clinicians must be ready to start independently.
• Completion of 8 hours of pre-start modules is mandatory.
• Must complete Epic Education modules prior to start.
• Must complete HIPAA education modules before Epic modules.
• Facility-specific quizzes and acknowledgments must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including:

  • Safe Patient Handling Quiz (100% pass required, 3 attempts max)
  • Orientation Quiz (100% pass required, 3 attempts max)
  • Adult Abuse and Assault Reporting Statement
  • Child Abuse Reporting
  • Domestic Violence and Spousal Abuse Reporting
  • Elder and Dependent Abuse Reporting
  • Hazardous Material Acknowledgment
  • Contract Service & Student Orientation

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (fit testing arranged through Employee Health).
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • TDAP vaccine within last 10 years (declination allowed)
  • Negative TB test (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually
  • TB questionnaire annually
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (booster if low/equivocal titer)
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (declination allowed if low/equivocal)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines (declination allowed if low/equivocal)
• Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year (instant drug screen acceptable; marijuana panel excluded per California law).
• Seasonal flu vaccine required November 1 - April 30 (declination allowed with masking).
• COVID-19 vaccine not mandatory; vaccination records collected if available.

Background & Documentation

• Standard background check within 1 year, updated annually (7-year search including SS trace, county, nationwide, sex offender).
• EPLS/GSA/SAM checks required.
• Two professional references required.
• Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist (updated annually) required.
• Annual internal evaluation if employed for 1 year or more.

Additional Notes

• All candidates must have an agency badge and provide a clear headshot photo for badge issuance.
• Candidates must review MemorialCare policies on drug and alcohol, hand hygiene, dress and appearance, and safe patient handling.
• Facility requires completion of various compliance and competency exams, including medication and EKG/dysrhythmia competency exams.
• Performance evaluations are completed by the facility post-start and are not required for clearance.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with independent work and flexible floating within critical care and lower acuity units.
