Registered Nurse – MS/Tele Float

Location: Metairie, Louisiana Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 13 weeks Shift: Night, 3x12 hours (19:00–07:00) Hours: 12 per day, 36 per week

Role Description

• Float pool RN position covering Med Surg/Tele patients who are holding in the Emergency Room while waiting for floor beds.
• May also be assigned to Med Surg/Tele units when not needed in the ED.

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS, BLS, and CPI certifications (preferred).

Requirements

• Valid RN license in Louisiana.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience of at least 1 year, with experience within the last year.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• ACLS (AHA) required for Emergency Room assignments.
• CPI Blue Card required for ED nurses. Only the Blue Card is accepted. Candidates not already certified may complete CPI onsite within 30 days of start.
• CPI Blue Card is not required for Med Surg or Tele if the CPI e-learning module is listed in the unit description. In that case, the candidate completes the training onsite and does not submit proof of the module.
• TNCC required for Pediatric ER assignments.
• Experience with Epic.
• State RN license verification required within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam: required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Minimum score of 80%.
• General competency exam: required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Minimum score of 80%.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam: required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Minimum score of 80%, with a maximum of 2 attempts. Required for Telemetry and most nursing roles.
• Core Part I, II, and III: required and updated annually.
• Skills checklist: required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
• Physical exam: required within 12 months of start for travel placements. Does not need annual updates.
• Tdap: required within 10 years. Medical and religious exemptions accepted.
• TB screening: QuantiFERON/T-SPOT or 2-step TB skin test within 3 months of start.

  • Past positive results require a positive test plus a chest X-ray within 5 years of start, along with an annual TB questionnaire.
• TB questionnaire: required for all candidates and updated annually.
• Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, and Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or a positive titer required. If the titer is low and vaccine proof is unavailable, 2 boosters are required, and the second must be completed within 60 days.
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or a positive titer required. Same booster rule as above.
• Hepatitis B: series, titer, or declination required. Declinations must be signed within 12 months of start.
• Flu vaccination: required from October 1 through March 31 for new starts beginning 10/1. Documentation is due by October 31. Medical and religious exemptions and declinations accepted on the appropriate form. Unvaccinated candidates must wear a mask at all times.
• Background check: completed within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived, worked, or attended school within the past 7 years. Must be updated annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks: required within 30 days of start.
• E-Verify (I-9): required.
• Government-issued photo ID required. The name must match all candidate documentation.
• Drug testing: required within 30 days of start. Panel includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, methadone, methamphetaminess, opiates, oxycodone, and phencyclidine.
• Employment application: must show 7 years of work history with no gaps longer than 30 days.
