Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse (LVN / LPN)

Job Description

• Work in a 14-bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit designed to accommodate ED boarder patients.
• Unit is a flexible space; patient census may vary based on demand.
• Responsibilities include patient care in med/surg telemetry setting with skills such as:

  • Blood glucose monitoring/testing
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Foley catheter insertion (male and female)
  • Administration of ear drops, eye drops, IM & SQ injections, NG/G tube care
  • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, face masks)
  • Ambulation assistance, bathing, mouth care
  • Admission of patients and communication of patient status changes to RN/MD
  • Isolation precautions and vital sign monitoring
• Float to care for med/surg patients as needed.
• Weekend coverage every other weekend (EOW).
• Call requirements depend on staffing needs.
• Communication primarily via SBAR for ED patients; verbal report for other transfers/admissions.
• Previous charge experience preferred.
• EPIC electronic health record system experience required.
• Open to first-time travelers.
• Scrub colors: Navy blue/white.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in New York.
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg nursing experience within the last year.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Competency in phlebotomy.

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA accepted.
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications as required by unit (if applicable).
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as required.
• Color blindness testing required.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required.
• State license primary source verification within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start.

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following within 5 days of contract signing:

• Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually).
• Fit mask testing (annual).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year).
• Immunizations or titers for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
• Snellen eye exam (within 1 year).
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required.

Background & Verification

• 7-year criminal background check required within 3 months of start.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and updated monthly.
• Education verification from primary source required.
• Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable.
• Transcript/diploma required if no education verification on file.
• Employment application and work history verification required.
• References required for some candidates (2 references within 3 years).
