Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Job Description

• Position in a 30-bed Operating Room unit specializing in Pediatric patients (Newborn to 17 years old).
• Shift: 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each, including some weekday and weekend on-call duties.
• Responsibilities include both scrubbing and circulating in the OR.
• No floating to other facilities.
• Self-scheduled call shifts on weeknights and weekends, rotating schedule.
• Permanent address must be at least 75 miles from the facility (no local candidates accepted).
• Pending state license accepted if active license is obtained before start.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in West Virginia
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including at least 2 years in Pediatric OR
• Pediatric OR experience within the last year
• Experience working with Pediatric patients
• Prior travel experience with at least one completed travel assignment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Experience circulating in the OR

Work Environment & Additional Details

• Facility is a short-term acute care hospital with Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
• Charting systems include Cerner, Accudose, and SBAR.
• Free parking available for travelers.
• Scrub color: Bright Blue.
• Guaranteed 40 hours per week.
• Call requirements include some weekend and weekday shifts.
• Flu vaccination is required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medically exempt with documentation.
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Social Security Card required (legible).
• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start.
• Various background screenings including sex offender search and federal exclusions.
• Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start.
• Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication calculations required for nursing candidates.
• Annual fit mask testing required (N95).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and no physical limitations.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start.
• Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B.
• Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel.
• Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season.

References & Skills Verification

• At least 1 reference required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the past year.
• Annual specialty-specific skills checklist must be completed and demonstrate true skills.

Important Notes

• Candidates cannot return as travelers within 2 years if previously employed permanently at this facility.
• Orientation is two days and includes training on Cerner Infusion Management and other facility-specific policies.
• Candidates must review and acknowledge facility dress code, blood administration policy, and other relevant documents prior to start.
• Self-scheduling for call shifts requires flexibility to meet unit needs; blocked schedules cannot be guaranteed.

This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with pediatric and women's health experience who have prior travel assignments and are seeking a challenging and rewarding travel contract in a specialized pediatric surgical environment.
