Registered Nurse - Neuro ICU

Location: North Kansas City, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Must have experience in Neuro ICU, CCU, and float to all ICU units.
• Cardiac and neuro experience required.
• 2 years of specialty experience required.
• Shift: 3x12 hour nights, every third weekend required.
• Start: ASAP.
• Charting system: Cerner experience required.
• Floating between units as needed.
• No block scheduling.
• Must pass an EKG exam on orientation day with a score of 80% or higher (tested on lethal rhythms).
• ICU, Neuro ICU, CCU, PCU, CVICU, CICU placements require 8 stroke, 8 trauma, and 8 cardiac CEUs.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience, including experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Cerner electronic charting system

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Missouri RN license or Compact RN license.
• ACLS (AHA or RQI).
• BLS (AHA or RQI).
• NIH Stroke Certification (annual update required).
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for ICU candidates; ACTN cert acceptable in lieu.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) required starting January 2026 (8-hour in-person course or AVADE equivalent).
• Dysrhythmia Advanced Course required for MS/Tele, MedSurg, Telemetry, ER ICU, Neuro ICU, Neuro CCU, CCU, PCU, and any unit requiring ACLS.
• Pass/Fail EKG test on orientation day (score >80%, no missed life-threatening rhythms).
• Safe Medication Administration Agreement required.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty.
• Prior travel experience is required.
• Must have cardiac and neuro ICU experience.

Schedule

• 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, nights.
• Every third weekend required.

Background & Screening Requirements

• Criminal background check covering all states/counties lived or worked in past 7 years.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and OIG checks required.
• MO EDL Search required prior to start.
• Drug screen: 10-panel within 3 months of start (instant tests not accepted).
• Physical exam within 1 year of start.
• Fit mask test onsite; no facial hair allowed.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
• Immunizations: MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer), Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer), Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination accepted).
• Flu shot required; approved medical or religious exemptions accepted with proper documentation.
• COVID vaccination required or facility-specific waiver accepted.

Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

• ICU, Neuro ICU, CCU, PCU, CVICU, CICU placements require:

  • 8 stroke CEUs
  • 8 trauma CEUs
  • 8 cardiac CEUs
• CEUs must be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually.
• TNCC certifications can only be used once per fiscal year for trauma CEUs.
• NIH Stroke certification acceptable for stroke CEUs.

Additional Requirements

• 2 recent references.
• Candidate application or resume required.
• Skills checklist required.
• OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission annual training required (attestation or CORE testing acceptable).
• Facility-specific dress code and artificial/natural nail policies apply.
