Job Opportunity: Stepdown Neuro Registered Nurse
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work options: 36 or 48-hour shifts; 13 or 26 week contract options
- Specialty: Mixed Acuity (Medical Surgical/Telemetry & Stepdown)
- Unit: 48-bed unit caring for medical surgical patients specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
- Patient population includes strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Med Surg/Telemetry: 1:5 days / 1:6 nights (night ratio may rarely be 1:7)
- Stepdown: 1:3-4 days and nights
- RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs, including to other units and potentially another campus
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat & Sun; nights: Fri & Sat)
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska (pending license accepted but must be in hand before start)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting (higher experience requirement applies)
- EPIC charting experience required
- Drip medication administration required on all floors
- First-time travel nurses NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
- Must be willing and able to float within scope to meet facility needs
- Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
- Must wear facility-specific scrubs (Steele gray scrubs required)
Certifications & Compliance
- ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP as applicable per unit (AHA standards)
- NIH Stroke Certification as applicable
- State license verification and primary source verification required prior to start
- Background check including federal enhanced search and various screenings within 30 days of start
- Drug screen within 60 days of start and updated annually
- Education verification required
- Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray as applicable
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemption or declination accepted)
Additional Information
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Must submit requests for time off (RTO) with application; up to two weeks permitted
- Parking permits available for purchase or daily parking rates apply
- Annual skills checklist required
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years required (1 if not a current traveler)
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with neurology/stepdown experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-acuity environment and are flexible with floating assignments.

Ethics are questionable at best, M/S unit demands higher acuity of care than most hospitals M/S units; a lot of the nurses are inexperienced.
