Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - IR PACU
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Interventional Radiology (IR) Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
- Rotating start times at 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, or 8:00 AM.
- Must have IR PACU experience with Phase 1 recovery.
- Minimum of 1 year ICU experience required.
- Experience caring for pediatric patients is required.
- 3-4 late stays required every 6 weeks.
- Shift schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (shift times vary based on unit needs).
- Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted.
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – must be willing to obtain prior to start if not currently held.
- NIH Stroke Certification
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – if applicable
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) – if applicable
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – if applicable
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card (can be completed onsite)
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – must pass facility’s advanced dysrhythmia exam with two attempts allowed.
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – PALS accepted in lieu for ER roles.
- Certification renewals must be planned if expiring during contract.
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in the state of Kentucky.
- Minimum 1 year ICU experience.
- IR PACU experience with Phase 1 recovery.
- Experience with pediatric patient care.
- Must pass background checks and verifications as required.
- Must complete required competency exams and skills checklists annually.
- Must have current physical exam and health documents (including immunizations and TB testing).
- Drug screening within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Must complete required facility-specific documents and policies prior to start.
Background Checks & Verifications
- Criminal background checks covering all locations lived/worked in last 7 years.
- National Sex Offender Search.
- Education verification or signed official transcript.
- Employment verification for last 7 years.
- Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated annually.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, or PA.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually.
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- TB test (PPD or equivalent) within 1 year, with chest x-ray if positive history.
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or boosters.
- Hepatitis B immunity or declination.
- Varicella immunity or booster.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- COVID vaccination series or approved exemption (booster preferred but not required).
- Drug testing within 1 year, updated annually.
Competency Exams & Skills
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (pediatric-specific if applicable).
- Color blindness test.
- Unit-specific competency exams (multiple may be required).
- Conscious sedation competency exam (if applicable).
- RN math ability competency exam.
- Annual core competency parts I, II, and III.
- Skills checklists updated annually.
Additional Notes
- Must be willing to complete PALS certification prior to start if not currently held.
- Must pass facility’s advanced dysrhythmia exam with a maximum of two attempts.
- Facility requires strict adherence to background checks, health screenings, and competency validations.
- This is a travel contract position; local candidates within 100 miles are not eligible.
