Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Unit & Patient Information
- Mixed acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Medical-Surgical Telemetry unit caring for medical oncology patients
- Approximately 48 beds (24 PCU + 24 MS Telemetry)
- Patient diagnoses include a variety of solid tumors and some blood cancers
- High acuity patient population
- Pediatric patients are extremely rare on this unit; pediatric experience is NOT required
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
Schedule & Orientation
- Self-scheduling requests are accepted before final schedule posting
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday, day shift
- Week 2: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs
- Weekend shifts are variable
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- Oncology experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Skills & Equipment
- Experience with or willingness to learn:
- GE B450 telemetry monitors
- Bladder Scanner
- Alaris infusion pumps
- Continuous Bladder Irrigation
- Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pumps
- Chemotherapy competence is not required; optional 2-day chemotherapy course available for professional development
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific)
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start
- Various health documentations required, including:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap, TB test or questionnaire)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- Competency exams required prior to start, including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
- Annual acknowledgment of safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership

This position is ideal for RNs interested in medical-surgical oncology care with telemetry experience, who are flexible with scheduling and open to travel assignments. Oncology experience is a plus but not mandatory.
