Job Overview

• Primarily outpatient setting with occasional float to acute care.
• Responsible for patient-focused care including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with physical therapy standards and physician orders.
• Delegates responsibilities to Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides.
• Functions as case manager for assigned cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient function using formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular status.
• Develop and update goal-specific treatment plans based on patient assessment and tolerance.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on pathology, prognosis, treatment rationale, and home education programs.
• Supervise Physical Therapist Assistants, Aides, Home Health Aides, and students per regulatory standards.
• Recommend and assist in securing adaptive/supportive equipment for patients.
• Document patient responses, treatment changes, and complete billing documentation in compliance with policies and regulatory agencies.
• Participate in team conferences, interdisciplinary meetings, and program development.
• Promote physical therapy services within the community.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and affiliate information.
• Demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows and participate in ongoing learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree required.

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid Physical Therapist (PT) license in Michigan required.

Physical & Mental Requirements

• Medium physical demand level:

  • Occasionally lift/carry 21-50 lbs. (0-33% of workday).
  • Frequently lift/carry 20 lbs. (34-66% of workday).
  • Constantly lift/carry 10 lbs. (67-100% of workday).
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Exposure to stressful situations including trauma, grief, and death.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials; must follow required testing protocols.
• Overall dexterity required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling, often repetitively.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment including latex or substitutes.
• Overall vision and hearing necessary with or without assistive devices.
• Ability to move freely about the facility with or without assistive devices.
• Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance and stay alert during work hours.
