Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel Contract
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Emergency Room (ER) Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a busy trauma center with approximately 56 beds (expandable to 60-70 with hall beds). The ER includes a fast track area (6 beds), a separate triage area (5 beds), and an 18-bed holding area for inpatients awaiting placement. The unit also has a locked psychiatric/seclusion area with 6 private treatment rooms.
Typical patient volume is about 170-200 per day with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3, or 1:4 for low acuity patients. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac events, stroke, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), altered mental status (AMS), respiratory issues, abdominal pain, and mental health conditions.
Work Schedule
- Shift: Evenings (12-hour shifts)
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must work holidays in November and December; one holiday may be excused if unit demands allow
- No call or standby required
- No floating to other units
Orientation & Training
- Orientation includes 1 day (8-10 hours) of compliance, policies, education, and training
- 2nd day is department-specific orientation (12 hours)
- Orientation/education hours are not guaranteed during the first 2 weeks; expect 25+ hours initially
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Washington State RN license or Compact License
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience required
- Candidates with 1 year of experience in larger trauma settings may be considered
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Unit Environment & Support Staff
- ED Physicians and Mid-Level Providers available
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor present
- Support staff includes ED Techs, CNAs, and 1:1 sitters provided by inpatient CNAs
- Respiratory Therapists manage ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, and perform ABGs
- ED Techs perform EKGs and assist with phlebotomy; nurses also draw blood
- Radiology department adjacent to ED with transport assistance for patients
- Monitor Techs present; RNs interpret telemetry strips
Additional Information
- No floating to other units required
- Dress code: Any professional scrub colors allowed
- Manager will conduct phone interviews; scheduling is based on department needs and traveler availability
- No same schedule accommodations for multiple travelers submitted together
- No return to orientation (RTO) will be considered during the first full week of assignment
- Security is available in-house
