Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery/Postpartum

Location: San Luis Obispo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (6 PM – 6 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts, 3 shifts per week)
Unit: Labor & Delivery/Postpartum
Beds:

9 Labor & Delivery beds
4 Postpartum beds
Patient Volume: Approximately 55 births per month

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery/Postpartum nurse for a travel contract. The nurse will float between Labor & Delivery and Postpartum units and must be able to circulate for C-sections. The patient population includes high-risk deliveries (34 weeks and above), with birth plans closely followed.

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in California
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
Postpartum experience
One completed travel assignment
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), AWHONN, Advanced Fetal Monitoring
C-section experience (must be able to circulate for C-sections)

Work Environment & Details

Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines
Fetal monitoring system: Fetal Link
Electronic Medical Record (EMR): Cerner
Charge nurse role available (does not take patient assignments)
OB tech support available on day and night shifts
No call requirement
Weekend requirement: every other weekend
Holidays worked in rotation with permanent staff
Scrub color provided by hospital
Telemetry monitoring system: Phillips
OB/Neonatologist available on call
Respiratory therapy available 24/7
Pharmacy not available 24/7; after-hours coverage via offsite system after 10 PM
Floating between Postpartum and Labor & Delivery units required
Floor-specific orientation: 3 shifts

Additional Notes

Candidates must be comfortable with high-risk deliveries and following detailed birth plans
Shift hours are 6 PM to 6 AM, every other weekend required to float first
COVID-19 vaccination required
