ICU/CCU Float Pool Registered Nurse

Contract Length

21 weeks

Shift

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week

Unit Overview

• ICU float pool covering a combination of ICU settings
• May care for high-acuity patients, including those on CRRT, IABP, and Impella
• Typical patient ratios are 1:1 to 1:2, with possible flexing up to 1:3 depending on acuity

Required Qualifications

• Active RN role
• BLS
• ACLS
• 2 years of ICU experience
• Must be comfortable titrating critical drips
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
• Must be in state for the week of orientation
• Driver’s license must be submitted

Preferred Experience

• Prior travel experience
• If first-time traveler, 3+ years of ICU experience and Epic experience

Work Expectations

• May need to float to other acuity levels, including ICU, PCU/Stepdown, and Med-Surg Tele
• May float between multiple locations within the zone
• May be asked to float mid-shift
• May be asked to assist in a CNA/Sitter capacity if census is low
• Travelers are expected to be flexible to help fill scheduling gaps
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• Rare call or standby requirement

Scheduling

• Schedule is built by leadership in 6-week blocks
• Weekend requirement: 6 to 9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Time-off requests must be submitted before the assignment starts

Orientation

• 1 to 2 days with a preceptor

Additional Notes

• No nurse aides on the unit
• Designated charge nurse on each unit
• Respiratory support is available, but RNs are expected to assist with troubleshooting and respiratory needs
