2+ years of ER experience
Moderate Conscious Sedation competency testing prior to start

Schedule

Every other weekend
Holidays worked into the perm staff rotation
Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
Shift start times vary

Charge nurse present
Nurse aides: PCT
Tele: Phillips
Vents: Yes
Hospitalist or intensivist in house 24/7
RT 24/7
Pharmacy in ER during the day
EMR: Cerner FirstNet
Floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts

Patient Population

Busy ER seeing an average of 150 patients per day
Typical ER patients: acute/emergent
Mix of adults and pediatrics
Psych holds are held for a short amount of time
Higher-acuity patients are transported out
Large homeless population

Pros

Traveler friendly for sure. I was on the TCU and they have a strong sense of teamwork. Break nurses every shift who are super helpful.

Cons

What management can’t provide, I would say the floor staff makes up for. Cost of living is higher only for lodging, I’m from Alaska and everything else was about the same. If you have a place to stay it’s a perfect gig!!
