- Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Orientation: 2 shifts of unit/department specific orientation
Experience & Certifications
- Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of unit experience
- Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Unit Information
- Department: Medical Surgical ICU
- Number of Beds: 34
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- ICU: 1:1-2
- PCU: 1:4-5
- Med Surg: 1:5-6
- Common Patient Types: Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old with conditions including:
- Neuro surgery (experience not required)
- Respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke
- Cardiogenic shock (Impella, balloon pump - experience not required)
- Renal failure (CRRT - experience not required)
- General surgery, psych/overdose, GI bleeds
- Cancer-specific surgeries (esophagectomy, internal chemo administration)
- Equipment & Procedures:
- CVPs, Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
- Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
- Bell Mont rapid transfuser
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, attends RRTs and Codes, and takes assignments
- Support Staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs present (ratio 1:18)
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- Telemetry: No telemetry techs; RNs must read and interpret Draeger heart monitor strips
Scheduling & Requirements
- Scheduling: Manager-created schedule based on unit needs; no self-scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday, based on unit needs
- Floating: Required to float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Orientation Exam: Pass/fail open book exam during orientation; must score 90% to pass

Compliance & Policies
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify distance
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO approvals will be granted
