CVU RN Travel Position - Omaha, Nebraska

Unit and Patient Population

  • Unit: HVI (Cardio/General ICU/PCU/MedSurg combined unit)
  • Beds: 18
  • Nurse:Patient Ratios:
    • 1:4 general
    • 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
  • Patient Types: Intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients
  • Common Diagnoses: Cardiac and vascular-related including cath lab patients, CVAs, CHF, A fib RVR, thoracic program support, EP, structural heart

Experience and Skills Required

  • Minimum 1 year experience with this patient population
  • Generalist ICU and PCU experience accepted
  • RNs must be able to titrate drips (e.g., Amiodarone, Nitro, Nicardipine, Epinephrine, Cardizem, and other BP management meds)
  • RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips

Certifications Required

  • ACLS
  • BLS
  • NIHSS

Staffing and Support

  • Charge Nurse on each shift (rarely takes patient assignment)
  • Patient Care Techs: 1:18 ratio
  • Hospitalist and Intensivist in-house 24/7; Cardiology on call after hours
  • Respiratory Therapist in ICU 24/7
  • Respiratory equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, Nasal Cannula; RNs troubleshoot only
  • Remote telemetry techs support unit; RNs interpret strips

Scheduling and Orientation

  • Shifts: 0630-1900 (day), 1830-0700 (night)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Floating: Will float to same or lower acuity units
  • Orientation: 1-2 shifts tailored to experience
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

Additional Information

  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • 48-hour work week contracts
  • RN orientation includes a pass/fail open book exam on Friday; must score 90% to continue
  • Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
  • Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
  • Driver’s license required at submission to verify distance
  • Return to orientation required within 7 days of contract start; no additional orientation time approved
