ICU Float Pool Nurse - Denver/Zone 3 (Centennial, CO)
Position Overview
- Specialty: ICU Float Pool (Combination of MICU, SICU, TICU, CVICU, etc.)
- Location: Centennial, Colorado (Zone 3 - 60 mile radius floating requirement)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience & Skills
- ICU Experience: Minimum 3 years ICU experience if first-time traveler; otherwise, 2 years ICU experience preferred.
- Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not strictly required. If no prior travel experience, must have 3+ years ICU experience and Epic experience.
- Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIHSS required.
- Clinical Skills:
- Comfortable titrating all critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, insulin, and more.
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently (no telemetry tech support).
- Assist with respiratory troubleshooting and management (ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen, breathing treatments).
Unit Details
- Nurse:Patient Ratio: Typically 1:1 to 1:2 depending on acuity; may flex up to 1:3. High acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) require 1:1.
- Charge Nurse: Designated charge nurse on each unit; usually does not take patient assignments except when necessary.
- Support Staff: No nurse aides on unit except for sitter needs.
- Respiratory Therapist: Designated RT for ICU but may not be present 24/7 on unit.
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
- Schedule: Set by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; travelers must be flexible to fill scheduling gaps.
- Weekend Requirement: 6-9 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule.
- Holiday Requirement: May be required to participate in holiday rotation.
- Call/Standby: Rare, only for low census situations.
- Orientation: 1-2 days with a preceptor; must be in-state for orientation week even if some modules are completed remotely.
Floating & Travel Requirements
- Floating: Required to float throughout the entire 60-mile zone, including multiple hospitals within the region.
- Facilities Covered: ICU, PCU/Stepdown, Medical-Surgical Telemetry units.
- Housing: Traveler responsible for securing housing that allows floating within the 60-mile radius.
Dress Code
- Any scrub color allowed.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with high acuity patients, flexible scheduling, and floating across multiple units and facilities within the Denver Zone 3 area.
