Job Opportunity: 4N Ortho-Neuro Nurse (RN)

Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Details

  • Unit: 4N Ortho - Neuro (33 beds, all private rooms)
  • Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 6 patients
  • Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:
    • Elective surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders)
    • Fractures from falls
    • Back & neck neuro-surgeries
    • General MedSurg patients

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (AHA) required
  • West Virginia or compact nursing license required

Experience Requirements

  • Must have experience with orthopedic patients
  • Must have experience with PCA pumps
  • EPIC experience required

Skills & Responsibilities

  • No RN titration of drips required
  • Common drips: IV fluids and PCA pumps only (no heparin or other drips)

Scheduling & Shifts

  • 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (with 30-minute lunch)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Fri-Sun for nights, Sat-Sun for days)
  • Holiday shifts may be required depending on unit needs
  • Travelers scheduled as needed; block scheduling allowed if unit needs are met

Floating & Call Requirements

  • Travelers are first to float, primarily to MedSurg units
  • If floated to Tele, patient assignments will be within RN skillset
  • Possible call-off for low census depending on contract

Orientation

  • 1 day EPIC orientation
  • 1 day floor orientation with preceptor
  • 3rd day working independently

Dress Code

  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Scrub jackets optional but must be royal blue scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)

Additional Notes

  • Must submit an unexpired copy of driver’s license with application
  • Time-off requests should be noted during prescreening
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required
