Registered Nurse (L&D) - Colorado Springs, CO

Job Details

  • Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)
  • Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
  • Shift: Days
  • Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
  • Unit: L&D / Postpartum / Mother-Baby
  • Beds:
    • 22 L&D beds
    • 2 OR suites for C-sections
    • 7 triage beds
    • 34 postpartum beds
  • Birth Volume: 8-12 births per day; ~250 per month; ~2900 per year
  • Orientation: 1 shift unit-specific orientation; clinicians must be in-state for orientation week even if some modules are remote
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling process with expectation to fill in as needed
  • Weekend and Holiday Requirements: Yes
  • Call Requirement: 18 hours of call every 6 weeks, signed up in 6-hour increments
  • Floating: Required to float to postpartum unit
  • Dress Code: Hospital-provided scrubs

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Must be able to circulate during C-sections in the OR
  • RN responsible for reading own fetal monitor strips (EFM system: GE Corometrics)
  • RNs required to titrate drips such as oxytocin and magnesium sulfate
  • Care for patients with diagnoses including labor, C-section, pre-eclampsia, infants of diabetic mothers (IDM), and various antepartum complications
  • Level III NICU on site; Neonatologist not in-house 24/7, but Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are in-house 24/7
  • Anesthesia available in-house 24/7
  • Surgical techs available on unit; no respiratory therapy equipment on L&D

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of high-risk Labor & Delivery experience
  • Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Must be able to circulate in the OR during C-sections
  • Valid Colorado nursing license required
  • Driver’s license must be submitted (radius requirement: 60 miles)

Additional Notes

  • Charge nurse does not take patient assignments
  • Nurses float to postpartum as needed
  • Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios as much as possible
  • Hiring process includes candidate interview and interview with clinical team; no unit manager involvement
