Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Centennial, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
This is a float pool RN position covering multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius of Colorado Springs, CO. The nurse will float across various units including Medical-Surgical Telemetry and specialties such as Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.
Key Responsibilities
- Float throughout the assigned zone covering multiple hospitals and units.
- Provide nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery, gynecology, psychiatric/detox, ENT, and general medicine.
- Administer and titrate drips such as Heparin.
- Work 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm or 7pm-7am) with schedules released 4–6 weeks in advance.
- Expected to work 6-9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule.
- May be required to participate in holiday rotations.
- May float to different acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
- Charge nurse roles exist but typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary.
Work Environment
- No home base facility; must be able to travel and float within a 60-mile radius zone.
- Floating assignments may be given 1–2 hours before shift start (Just-In-Time scheduling) or scheduled weekly at a single facility.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios generally range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on acuity.
- Nurse aides are available on units.
- Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP are used on some units.
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - AHA
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience required.
- Prior neuro experience preferred but not mandatory.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Scheduling & Time Off
- Schedules are created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time.
- Flexibility is required to fill gaps in permanent staffing.
- All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment.

- Orientation week requires clinicians to be in-state even if some modules are remote.
- Nurses must secure housing that allows floating within the entire 60-mile zone.
- Charge nurses are designated on each unit and typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary, especially on night shifts.
