Job Details

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Beds: 33 beds (average daily census 16)
Shift Hours:
- 06:30 AM – 06:30 PM
- 06:30 PM – 06:30 AM
Scheduling:
- Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers
- Block scheduling generally not approved
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: minimum 2 holidays during contract
Orientation: 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
Return to Orientation (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved

Patient Population & Care

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
Common Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac conditions, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
Nursing Responsibilities:
- Titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, sedation
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips (monitor brand: GE)
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Floating to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or MedSurg with typical ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
Support Staff: Nurse aides and healthcare support techs assist based on census and volume

Required Certifications & Qualifications

Valid RN license in Nebraska
Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
ICU experience within the last year
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Basic Life Support (BLS)
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Notes

If placed on call and called back in, nurses have 30 minutes to arrive
Blocked scheduling is generally not approved except for weekends only (requests can be made)
Duo scheduling or shared car arrangements are not accepted

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with telemetry monitoring, titrating drips, and managing complex adult critical care patients.
