Job Opportunity: TICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Patient Population

  • Department: Trauma ICU (Level 1 trauma center)
  • Unit Size: 18 beds
  • Patient Types: Adults and Pediatrics >15 years old with various trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, cardiac arrest
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • ICU: 1:1 to 1:2
    • PCU: 1:4
  • Common Equipment & Procedures:
    • CVPs, IABP, Impella (core staff will take if no experience)
    • Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
    • Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, Bell Mont rapid transfuse
  • Respiratory Equipment: Nasal cannula to ventilators; RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow
  • Telemetry: No telemetry techs; RNs must read and interpret Draeger heart monitor strips

Shift & Scheduling

  • Shift Times: 0630-1830 and 1830-0630 (12-hour shifts)
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling managed by unit manager based on needs
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Floating: Required to float to inpatient units except Maternity/NICU

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • License: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required
  • Experience:
    • Specialty: Trauma ICU nursing experience required (minimum 1 year implied by "Will not accept First Time Travelers")
    • Prior Travel Experience: Required (No first-time travelers accepted)
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation
    • Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location (within 50 miles radius)
    • No license or background issues allowed
    • Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited; refusal to comply leads to contract termination

Orientation & Training

  • Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
  • Real-time training available for advanced monitoring and equipment

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Fast-paced unit with critically ill patients
  • Attributes for success: Critical thinking, personable, positive attitude, team player
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs available at 1:18 ratio

Additional Notes

  • Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
  • Return to Office (RTO) needed within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals

This position is ideal for experienced Trauma ICU RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a challenging and fast-paced critical care environment.
