Job Opportunity: OR RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant)

Location: Bakersfield, California
Contract Length: 14 weeks

Job Description

Seeking an experienced OR RNFA for a travel contract in a hospital setting. The role involves assisting in a variety of surgical cases including orthopedic, urology, gynecology, neurology, general surgery, ENT, bariatrics, and ophthalmology.

Common Cases

Orthopedics: total joint replacements (knees, hips, shoulders), knee and shoulder scopes, total shoulder arthroplasties (TSAs)
Urology: cystoscopies, ESWLs, TURPs, penile prosthesis, orchiectomies, open prostate surgeries (nephrectomies rare)
Gynecology: hysterectomies, D&C, slings, robotic hysterectomies, gynecologic oncology, salpingo-oophorectomy
Neurology: orthopedic spine, brain tumors, craniotomies, subdural hematomas, transsphenoidal tumor resections, VP shunts
Other: hand surgery, podiatry, DaVinci robotic surgeries, vascular procedures (AV fistulas, thrombectomies, carotids, endarterectomies, femoral-popliteal bypasses), general surgery (open, laparoscopic, robotic), ENT (tonsils, adenoids, pediatric ENT), bariatrics, ophthalmology

Required Experience & Skills

Minimum 2 years of experience as an OR RNFA
Experience in orthopedics and robotics is a deal breaker (must have)
Experience in neurology and gynecology (specifically surgical women's health) preferred
Cerner electronic medical record system experience required
Prior travel experience required (No first-time travelers)

Schedule & Work Conditions

Days only, 10-hour shifts
40 guaranteed hours per week
Call required every other weekend (EOW)
May be required to float between two hospital locations
Forced call is rare and based on a rotation list for coverage

Required Certifications & Licenses

Active California RN license
BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
RNFA certification

Additional Notes

Must be able to work call weekends occasionally
Flexibility to float between hospital sites is necessary
