CVICU Travel Nurse Opportunity - Prescott, Arizona

Specialty: CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Unit Beds: 12
Shift Length: 12 hours, 7 days a week
Weekend Requirement:

  • Required to work 2 weekend shifts per pay period (two weeks)
  • Shifts may fall on Friday or Saturday nights depending on unit needs
  • Every other weekend off may be possible at Nursing Leadership discretion
    Holiday Requirement: Yes
    Call/Standby Requirement: Yes, maximum 3 per 12 weeks per contract
    Floating: Yes, as needed based on department skill needs; may float to ICU, PCU, MS, Tele on both campuses

Experience & Skills Required

  • Minimum 2 years CVICU experience
  • Must pass dysrhythmia exam with at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
  • If failed twice, not eligible for 6 months in AZ and Sacramento
  • Experience with IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump), CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy), and fresh OHS (Open Heart Surgery) from OR experience
  • RNs must be able to titrate drips

Patient Care & Unit Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2 or 1:1 based on acuity
  • Common diagnoses: AMI (Acute Myocardial Infarction), CAD (Coronary Artery Disease), PVD (Peripheral Vascular Disease)
  • Common titratable/set rate drips: Dexmedetomidine, Propofol, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, Epinephrine, Levosimendan, Insulin, Cardene
  • No nurse aides on unit
  • Charge Nurse and House Supervisor coverage 24/7
  • Intensivists in-house
  • Respiratory Therapists available 24/7 department-wide (not unit-specific)
  • Respiratory equipment includes vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, HiFlow

Monitoring & Technology

  • Telemetry: In-room monitors only (Nihon Kohden)
  • No dedicated monitor techs; RNs read EKG strips
  • Desired experience with Impella device
  • Cerner electronic health record system used

Certifications & Requirements

  • ACLS and BLS required
  • Must have own vehicle if traveling as a duo (duo travelers will not have the same schedule)
  • Radius rule: Must live within 50 miles and not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity) in the past year

Orientation & Dress Code

  • Unit/department-specific orientation provided
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue

Additional Notes:

  • Floating primarily to ICU, PCU, MS, Tele units on both campuses
  • Night shifts available
  • Prescreen and auto offer possible if return-to-office (RTO) is less than 7 days and no holiday requests
