Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Tech is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, and sterilization of medical supplies and equipment. This role requires conscientious attention to procedures, the ability to handle pressure and clerical assignments, and maintaining confidentiality. The position supports various specialties including OB-GYN, general surgery, ENT, orthopedics, podiatry, pain management, and urology. Experience with endoscopy scope cleaning and sterilization is also required.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and inspect autoclave units daily, ensuring proper function
- Perform biological and chemical tests on sterilization equipment and document results
- Process contaminated instruments and supplies according to sterilization principles and manufacturer instructions
- Assist with training and in-services for new and existing staff
- Apply aseptic techniques in daily tasks
- Assemble, package, and prepare surgical trays and supplies for sterilization
- Load, operate, and clean sterilizers (gas and steam) and other equipment
- Manage inventory by ordering supplies as needed
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures
- Participate in quality improvement activities and compliance programs
Required Qualifications
- Sterile Processing Technician with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
- Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER)
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent walking, standing, kneeling, and bending
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens (Exposure Category I)
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills necessary for job functions

- Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations
- Follow hospital compliance, privacy, and security policies
- Report any compliance or confidentiality concerns appropriately
- Participate in hospital-wide quality improvement programs
