Job Description
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care plans.
- Provide patient care following standards of care, practice protocols, and policies.
- Deliver patient- and family-centered teaching based on learning needs and readiness.
- Collaborate in discharge planning incorporating support systems and resources.
- Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others appropriately.
- Prioritize patient care, seek assistance, and recognize emergency intervention needs.
- Document all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses accurately and timely.
- Provide thorough handoff reports to healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Promote learning and professional development for self and colleagues (e.g., precepting).
- Identify patient safety risks and opportunities to reduce medical errors; report incidents appropriately.
- Address ethical issues in patient care.
- Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy per orders and protocols.
- Assess and manage patient pain using numerical pain scales; document and communicate responses.
- Identify and interpret cardiac arrhythmias and EKG changes accurately.
- Monitor and document thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in mechanical ventilation, including care of intubated patients.
- Interpret arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, and signs of impaired gas exchange.
- Understand and assist with hemodynamic monitoring and vascular cannulation.
- Administer vasoactive medications safely, understanding dosage and titration.
- Provide post-operative assessment and monitoring according to protocols.
- Intervene appropriately for complications during recovery from anesthesia or sedation.
- Complete medication reconciliation documentation.
- Implement ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) bundle protocols and report deviations.
- Participate actively in daily multidisciplinary rounds for patient care planning and evaluation.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- ACLS certification upon hire OR active BLS certification with ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire.
- Preferred: CCRN certification.
- Preferred: Minimum 1 year medical-surgical nursing experience.
- Preferred: Previous telemetry experience.
- Preferred: ICU experience.
