Number of staff: 49
Patient ratio: 6 patients per nurse
Typical day shift staffing: 1 Charge nurse, 3 RNs, 3 LPNs, 3 PCTs, 1 secretary
Typical night shift staffing: 1 Charge nurse, 3 RNs, 3 LPNs, 3 PCTs
Equipment used: IV pumps, Wound Vacs, SCD pumps, Kangaroo Pumps, Chest Tubes, Telemetry monitors, PCA pumps, Bipaps, Epidurals
Floating areas: 6A, 3A, 3South, 4South

Job Responsibilities / Procedures

Wound Vac changes
Wound care
IV insertions
Insertion of indwelling Foley catheters

Required Qualifications

Valid LPN/LVN license in Louisiana
Minimum 1 year of LPN/LVN experience within the last year
ACLS certification
BLS certification
IV Therapy Certificate
Med-Surg experience
Telemetry experience
Assessment of skills pertaining to the Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse role, or assessment of pharmacological knowledge relevant to the Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse role, or education on managing the risks associated with hazardous drugs as per USP 800 guidelines

Staff nurses very friendly and lots of team work. Very high acuity patients provides good experience.

Cons

HCA facility, lots of ED holds, ICU holds in the department. Facility accepts lots of transfers. Patients in hallway beds due to high volume.
