Registered Nurse (Telemetry) - Travel Assignment

Location: Alexandria, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Employment Type: Travel
Work Schedule: Full Time
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
On Call Requirement: None
Floating: Required to float when needed

Unit & Patient Population

• Patient types include Myocardial Infarction (MI), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Arrhythmias, Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), and some medical-surgical overflow.
• The unit manages many cardiac drips (no nitrates administered, but drips are managed).
• Nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 5:1 to 6:1 depending on staffing.

Job Summary

• Provides independent nursing care in a similar clinical setting.
• Delivers routine and complex care with long-range planning.
• Manages clinical contingencies and delegates appropriately.
• Meets professional nursing competencies and standards.
• Utilizes the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
• Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families.
• Administers medications and treatments per protocol; monitors side effects and effectiveness.
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
• Assesses learning needs and educates patients, families, and caregivers.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Orientation & Competency

• Newly hired experienced RNs must complete New Nurses Orientation within 30 days.
• New hires receive preceptorship by trained staff and must complete organizational and MedSurg-specific competency validations.
• Newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency or specific orientation program.
• Annual competency verification is required.
