Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Operating Room

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work primarily in the Cardiovascular Operating Room with a focus on assisting anesthesia providers in cardiothoracic, trauma, elective, and general surgeries.
• Responsible for circulating duties in a 21-OR suite, managing 4-5 rooms per day.
• Assist with conscious sedation, intubations (including fiber optic scopes), sterile techniques for central lines, arterial lines, lumbar drains, Swan Ganz catheters, IV starts, lab draws, medication pump setup, and operation of equipment such as Belmont, Cell Saver, and Level I.
• Participate in on-call rotation: 1 night of call per week, 1 weekend per month, and 1 backup call per week with a 30-minute response time; a vehicle is required.
• Weekend and holiday rotation every 3rd-4th weekend and holiday.
• Flexible candidate with strong critical thinking, resilience, adaptability, and excellent work ethic. Willingness to perform downtime tasks as needed.
• 2-week orientation with additional anesthesia skills training provided.
• Use of Epic electronic health record system required.

Schedule

• Monday to Friday, various day shifts
• Shift hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (8 hours per day)
• Guaranteed 40 hours per week (except during holidays when the unit may be closed)

Required Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license.
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience with anesthesia experience required.
• Prior travel experience required.
• Diploma or degree in nursing (Associate’s or Bachelor’s).
• Certifications: AHA or ARC BLS and ACLS.
• Must comply with mandatory flu and COVID vaccination policy or wear a mask at all times during flu season.

Additional Requirements

• Must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility.
• Reliable vehicle required due to 30-minute on-call response time.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity OR environment with multiple specialties.

Equipment and Systems

• Epic EHR system
• Cell Saver, Belmont equipment operation
