Job Opportunity: LVN / LPN - Medical Surgical (Travel/Contract)

Location: Rochester, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with possible care for Emergency Department holding patients.
• 14-bed overflow unit to accommodate ED boarder patients; flex space inside GI Endoscopy area.
• Unit may fluctuate in patient census based on demand.
• Float required based on patient turnover; may float to care for Medical Surgical patients.
• Weekend coverage every other week (EOW).
• Call requirements depend on staffing needs.
• Communication: SBAR used for ED patients; verbal report expected for other transfers/admissions.
• Previous charge experience preferred.
• Unit accepts first-time travelers.
• Scrubs: Navy blue/white.

Required Certifications & Skills

• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit description
  • State License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
• Skills:

  • Emergency Department experience
  • Medical Surgical/Telemetry care
  • Blood Glucose Monitoring/Testing
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Foley catheter insertion (male and female)
  • Ear and Eye Drops administration
  • IM & SQ injections
  • NG Tube/G Tube care
  • Oral and Subcutaneous medication administration
  • Ambulation assistance
  • Oxygen administration (face masks, nasal cannula)
  • Bathing (sitz, tub, bed, shower)
  • Mouth care
  • Patient admission
  • Communication of patient status changes to RN/MD
  • Isolation precautions
  • Vital sign monitoring
• Electronic Medical Record: EPIC required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of experience in the specialty (LVN/LPN).
• Prior travel experience not required.

Licensure & Scheduling

• Locals accepted only within 75 miles (locals not accepted for this role).
• Pending license not accepted.
• Minimal Return to Office (RTO) restrictions.
• Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed.

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and documentation within 5 days of signing the contract:

• Physical Exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
• Fit Mask testing (annual)
• Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (within 1 year)
• TB Questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
• Immunizations:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug Testing (within 30 days of start)
• Flu Seasonal Vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
• Eye Exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required.
• 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly.
• Education verification from primary source required; foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable.
• Transcript/Diploma required if no education verification on file.
• References: 2 references within 3 years required for Aya candidates.
• Employment application and work history verification required.
• State-specific documents for New York including:

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable)
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (if applicable)
  • Disciplinary Action Search Results (if applicable)
  • Sex Offender Registry Search (within 30 days of start)
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check (within 3 months of start, run monthly)

Additional Notes

• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as required by profession.
• Color Blind Testing required once.
• Competency exams as required by specialty.
• Facility-specific documents and photo for badge required.

This position is ideal for LVNs/LPNs with at least 1 year of experience in medical surgical or telemetry nursing who are comfortable working in a flexible, fast-paced environment with ED boarder patients. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome.
