Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PACU) - Columbus, Ohio

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PreOp/PACU)
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Day shift; shifts rotate between closer (5:00 AM - 5:30 PM) and opener (8:00 AM - 8:30 PM)
  • Call Requirements: Includes call; every 3rd to 4th weekend on call
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1

  • Duration: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years
  • Required Skills: PreOp/PostOp nursing experience, Epic electronic health record experience
  • Preferred Experience: Level 1 trauma, outpatient, PACU, previous charge nurse experience

Unit Details / Procedures

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG)
  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) repair
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
  • Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR)
  • Femoral-Popliteal/Femoral-Tibial-Peroneal Bypass
  • Angiogram
  • Pulmonary decortication
  • Ablation

Certifications & Competencies Required

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • Epic experience
  • Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • Previous charge nurse experience
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
    • Unit-specific competency exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually)

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • Valid nursing license (compact license candidates must provide residency declaration if license is from outside Ohio)
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal background check, FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific fingerprinting code required)
  • Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases
  • Education accreditation verification from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
