Registered Nurse (RN) - CVICU

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks (preferred; 13 weeks acceptable)

Job Details

• Unit: CVICU (Cardiac/Vascular Intensive Care Unit)
• Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks out (based on compliance tier)
• Shift Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week (36 guaranteed)
• Patient Ratio: 1:2
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call: Not required
• Floating: Yes, within service line when needed
• Local Candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
• Pending License: Accepted

Experience & Requirements

• Specialty: Cardiac/CVICU ICU experience required
• Years of Experience Required: 2 years in Cardiac/CVICU ICU
• First-timers: Not accepted (prior travel experience required)
• Certifications Required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
• Competency Exams:

  • Must pass Relias EKG (Dysrhythmia) exam prior to start

Clinical Skills & Special Requirements

• Experience with:

  • Ventilator management
  • Arterial line management
  • Pulmonary artery catheter management
  • Pacemakers, Impellas, Balloon pumps, LVADs
  • Acute heart failure, CHF exacerbation, fluid overload
  • Post cardiac arrest care
  • Complete heart block, cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, ventricular tachycardia
  • Vasoactive drips, central lines, PA/TVP catheter monitoring
  • Dialysis, Foley catheter care
  • Intra-aortic balloon pumps
• No neuro ICU experience required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
  • State-specific searches and registries as applicable
• Licenses:

  • Primary source verification of Missouri RN license (NURSYS verification required)
  • Pending licenses accepted
• Certifications:

  • Must have current ACLS, BLS, and BSN credentials
• Health Documents:

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
  • Drug testing within 1 year, including specific panels (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• Facility Specific Documents:

  • HIPAA Acknowledgement
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
  • Confidentiality Form
  • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, via WorkRamp, must score 80% or higher)
  • Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, Dress Code Policies acknowledgment
  • Orientation Modules (approx. 16 hours, required prior to start)
  • Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions)
• Other:

  • Up to 2 time-off requests allowed during contract, max 40 hours (5 days)
  • Must complete unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start

• Candidates must have prior travel experience; first-time travelers are not accepted.
• Floating may be required within the service line.
• Parking information and costs vary; night shift parking is free.
• This is a Magnet & Teaching Hospital and a Level I Trauma Center with 1,266 staffed beds.
