Pediatric ER Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Emergency Room Registered Nurse
- Required Years of Experience: 2 years (must have pediatric experience within an Adult/Pediatric combined ED or a Pediatric ED)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted with strong experience
- Weekend Requirement: Travelers will be scheduled for weekends as needed (weekend days = Saturday & Sunday; weekend nights = Friday, Saturday & Sunday)
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, may float to Pediatric admission floors as needed
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week; facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
- COVID Vaccination: Required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form)
Patient Ratios
- Typical ratio: 1:4 (days, nights, weekends)
- Ratios may increase during busy periods
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - must have prior to signing
- Other preferred/required certifications include:
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - RQI not acceptable
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (pass/fail testing required)
Special Requirements & Skills
- Pediatric experience in ED setting required
- Skills in triage, pediatric dosage calculations, phlebotomy, IV starts
- Interpretation of 12 Lead EKG and cardiac dysrhythmias
- Trauma/resuscitation experience preferred
- Must be able to work in a Level I Trauma, Teaching, Children’s Hospital environment
Licensure & Compliance
- Must hold a valid New Mexico RN license (original with 3D seal required onsite)
- Background checks: 7-year criminal check within 30 days of start, education verification, fingerprinting onsite during orientation
- Drug screen: Negative drug screen within 30 days of start (instant screens not accepted)
- Physical exam: Required within 1 year prior to start
- Immunizations:
- Flu vaccine required year-round (exceptions for exemptions)
- COVID vaccine required (with exemptions accepted)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer required
- TB test: Negative Qgold, Tspot, or PPD within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
Additional Information
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
- No locals within 75 miles allowed
- Must have a valid non-local driver’s license (facility not near public transportation)
- Must complete facility-specific compliance forms and training, including Cerner training attestation (optional test-out available)
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required with two attempts allowed before cancellation
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exams with passing scores
- Must complete orientation safety manual acknowledgement
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
