Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bel Air, Maryland
Unit: 1W Orthopedics
Shift: Nights, 36 hours every other week (EOW)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Specialty: MS/Tele-Ortho/Spine RN
- Patient Diagnoses:
- Orthopedics: Joint Replacement, Fracture Repair
- Spine: ACDF, Fusion, Decompression
- Med/Surg: Various diagnoses
- Special Equipment Used:
- IV pumps, PCAs, Bucks Traction, overbed trapeze
- SCDs, foot pumps, Incentive Spirometer (I/S)
- Hoyer lift, Sara Stedy (sit to stand), walker
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- Experience: Minimum 2 years required; first-time travelers with strong ortho/spine experience considered
- Start Date: January 5, 2026
Licenses & Certifications Required
- Registered Nurse license in Maryland
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIH Stroke Certification (updated annually)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, required for Tele areas
- Other certifications as applicable (refer to unit/job description): PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, CPI, STABLE
- National and state license verifications and competency exams required
Competency Requirements
- MS/Tele competency exam specific to Orthopedics (1W unit)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Age-specific competency exam (score 80% or higher)
- Color Blind Testing (one-time)
Background & Compliance Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification for highest level of education
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30-45 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex Screen
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for certain units)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination (series not accepted)
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required by December 2, 2025
- COVID-19 vaccination not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking
References & Employment History
- Two professional references required within 1 year of start (one must be a supervisor/manager; charge RN acceptable)
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Confidentiality agreement and unit-specific job description must be signed prior to start
- Compliance with appearance standards, fingernail hygiene, and business conduct policies
- Completion of OSHA questionnaire and other facility-specific documents prior to start
- Security ID application and badge photo required
- Review of dress code and self-learning program before orientation
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and training within specified timeframes prior to start
- Orientation includes completion of modules and competency attestations
- First-time travelers with strong ortho/spine experience are encouraged to apply
