Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Unit (Telemetry)
Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: Cardiovascular Unit - Telemetry (54 beds)
- Patient types: Heart failure, heart attack (STEMI and NSTEMI), stroke (requiring cardiac monitoring), cardiac arrhythmias, chest pain, and occasional overflow medical patients
- Patients are monitored remotely and on the unit, including cardiac drips
- PCA support available on the unit
Schedule & Workload
- Shift: 4x12 hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
- Call: None
- Guaranteed hours: 36 hours/week
- Block scheduling: Not guaranteed but managers will try to accommodate
- Nurse-to-patient ratio may increase to 1:7 temporarily
Experience & Certifications
- Required years of specialty experience: 1 year
- Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
- Required certifications:
- ACLS (AHA only)
- BLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (required for all RNs)
Housing & Location
- Travelers must live at least 50 miles away from the facility (locals not accepted)
Documentation & Compliance Requirements
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in (required within 90 days of start)
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts
- Physical exam
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (Qgold required within 1 year; T-Spots not accepted)
- TB questionnaire (prior to start and annually)
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant accepted if needed for quick start)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start (flu season October–May)
- COVID vaccine exemption process available for medical or religious reasons
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement and photo for badge
- Completion of mandatory online modules (~8-10 hours) prior to start (paid hours)

- Charting system: Cerner Powerchart
- Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
- On-site EKG exam and cardiac rhythm review required only for Monitor Techs (not RN role)
