Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts starting at 18:45
  • Unit Size: 23 beds
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: Will float within scope as needed
  • Schedule Flexibility: Open to block schedule requests (discuss with manager)
  • Local Candidates: Accepted, no radius restrictions
  • On-call: Not required

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Active ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Active BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • PICC line management experience

Facility & Work Environment

  • Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center
  • Magnet recognized facility
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrub color: Any solid color
  • Parking permit required (no cost)

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming ability to perform job functions without restrictions
  • Fit mask testing required prior to start (specific mask types accepted)
  • Immunizations and/or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • TB testing (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold) within 1 year of start
  • Fingerprinting and Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry results required for clinical candidates without an IL license
  • Competency exam required prior to start
  • Professional references: 2 required

Notes

  • Guaranteed hours may be subject to client call-offs up to a certain limit during the assignment
  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
  • Badge photo required before start
  • Candidate must review and sign code of conduct and other facility-specific documents within 7 days of contract signing

This position is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of Med Surg experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a busy acute care hospital setting and have the required certifications and skills, including PICC line management and IV starts. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
